How to use these exams

Sit the first exam timed and untutored, as a diagnostic. Your results page ranks the content areas by how many points each would recover on the real 150-question test, which tells you where study time pays. Drill your weakest area untimed, then sit the next exam fresh. Because all twelve exams are distinct, your score movement between them measures real learning rather than memorization.

The state exam samples differently every sitting, so no two candidates see the same test. What stays fixed is the outline: seven content areas in published proportions, with Practice of Real Estate and Disclosures alone worth a quarter of your score. These exams hold that outline constant so your practice matches the odds.

What exam day allows

The state exam is multiple choice with four options per question, and the DRE lets you bring a silent, battery-operated, pocket-sized calculator so long as it is not programmable. The Department supplies the scratch paper, because computations may only be written on paper it furnishes. Cell phones are barred from the room entirely, including during breaks. Every math question here is solvable on a basic calculator for that reason.

What the salesperson exam covers

The heaviest areas are Practice of Real Estate and Disclosures at 25 percent, Laws of Agency at 17 percent, and Property Ownership at 15 percent. Together they are more than half the exam. Trust fund handling, fair housing, the Transfer Disclosure Statement, agency relationships, and disclosure timing rules dominate, with valuation math and financing making up most of the rest.
